At the 3rd Cardiovascular Outcome Trial Summit Amin Al-awar, PhD student at Doctoral School of Biology, was awarded Best Research Abstract.

A summary about the event from Amin Al-awar

'As a PhD student and young researcher at the Biology Doctoral School of the University of Szeged, and under the supervision of Krisztina Kupai Pharm.D., Ph.D. and Csaba Varga Ph.D., habil the Head of our lab and the Department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Neuroscience, it was a great honor for me to earn the best abstract and research award at the 3rd Cardiovascular Outcome Trial Summit of the Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease EASD study group that was held at Infinity Hotel and Conference Resort in Munich, Germany on 26th & 27th October 2017.

My PhD research work about anti-diabetic drugs, incretin-based therapies and cardiovascular ischemia was selected for a traveling grant and poster presentation at this prestigious congress. The event was organized by Dr. Oliver Schnell from Germany and Dr. Antonio Ceriello from Italy. Many distinguished cardiologists, diabetologists, endocrinologists and eminent researchers coming from the US, the UK and all over Europe joined the event, and only 3 abstracts were selected from 30 different research topics including Poster and Oral presentations, while the other 2 winners were Dr. Isabelle Johansson from Sweden, Dr. Tamara Kuchmerovska from Ukraine.

Selection criteria were based on:

  1. Innovative research in the field of diabetes and cardiovascular disease
  2. Acclaim of clinical and experimental fields of research

Dr. Kupai has always been a motivating and supportive person, and I believe that success in science always starts from encouragement. I’m proud of our lab for being a warm room of all my achievements and equally gratified of being a student at the University of Szeged.

All love for my second home country, Hungary.'
