Prof. Dr. Gábor Szabó Rector of SZTE to Become Honorary Citizen of Szeged

The Rector of the University of Szeged became a honorary citizen of the city of Szeged. This particular sign of recognition was awarded by László Botka mayor of Szeged during the ceremonial general assembly on May 18. Mr. Mihály Szajbély was awarded a Medallion for Szeged and Mr. András Lednitzky was appraised for his contribution to international relations of Szeged.

Dr Gábor Szabó played a significant role in accomplishing the laser research centre project. We might say that the heart and soul of Szeged are the community and its solidarity while the brain and intelligence are the University of Szeged, its students and scholars, where talented as well as strongly committed professors and leaders, such as Dr Gábor Szabó are working. We are truly grateful and affined as he accomplished an achievement that defines the future of Szeged in the field of science. This honour goes to Dr Gábor Szabó, the Rector of the University of Szeged’ said mayor László Botka.

SZTE Experience

Gizem Gültekin – Faculty of Law and Political Sciences

I am studying at University of Szeged as a former Erasmus student, currently as a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holder. Both the institution and the town are wonderful. Many entertainment and sports facilities are provided, and it is also easy to make new friends. It is a great experience to attend the University, and I would like to stay in Szeged and continue my academic studies.

I live in Budapest, and I commute by train to Szeged every day. It’s not a huge distance for me, I got used to travelling back home. I study, watch the scenery or the people. Once I lost my wallet, and everyone around me tried to help. One of them offered to give me some money, another one offered to take me where I had to go. I love Szeged, Hungarians and nice, and I like the cuisine, though the spicy food is not spicy enough for my taste. I’m very happy to study here. At the Faculty of Economics, the program is practice-oriented, we get a lot of useful information and a lot of opportunities are offered by our professors.
