Summer break at the University of Szeged between 4-21 August 2018

In the need for specific measures to enhance energy efficiency, the University of Szeged will be closed from the 4th to the 21st of August. However, healthcare-related departments of the institution will be operating.

The greenest university in Hungary closes most of its premises for 10 business days, academic and administrative employees will be on summer holiday. The Rector’s Office, the Faculties’ Dean’s Offices and libraries as well as the Economic and technical directorates will be closed. This helps the University to reduce the cost of maintenance.

This central summer break does not apply to healthcare-related departments.

The first working day following the summer break will be the 21st of August, Tuesday.

The opening ceremony begins on the 1st of September, 10:00 a.m. at Tik Study and Information Centre (10 Ady Square, Szeged) in the Congress Hal, marking the beginning of the next academic year.

SZTE Experience

PhuongPhuong Thu Tran - Faculty of Economics - Business Administration and Management

I live in Budapest, and I commute by train to Szeged every day. It’s not a huge distance for me, I got used to travelling back home. I study, watch the scenery or the people. Once I lost my wallet, and everyone around me tried to help. One of them offered to give me some money, another one offered to take me where I had to go. I love Szeged, Hungarians and nice, and I like the cuisine, though the spicy food is not spicy enough for my taste. I’m very happy to study here. At the Faculty of Economics, the program is practice-oriented, we get a lot of useful information and a lot of opportunities are offered by our professors.

I heard about Stipendium Hungaricum from a fellow countryman. I would love to teach at a university one day, but a Doctorate degree is often required in order to do so. That is why I came to Szeged, where I am currently working on my doctoral thesis in educational science – my special field of interest is scientific literacy of students. Life is completely different in Namibia; it is mostly a rural country and agriculture is still hardly mechanised and many homesteads in villages in the countryside are built of wood. The weather is totally different from the one in Szeged, the cold and icy weather caught me by surprise after returning from Christmas holiday, I didn’t have proper shoes so my feet were constantly freezing.
