The list of the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2019, commonly referred to as the Shanghai Ranking has recently been published. The University of Szeged was ranked between the 601-700th on the Chinese list, only one university in the capital precedes, as a result, according to the ARWU ranking the University of Szeged is the best Hungarian university out of the capital.
The SZTE performed well in terms of scientific disciplines: the University of Szeged was ranked between the 151-200th places, improving its previous result and making the SZTE the best Hungarian university in terms of pharmaceutical sciences. As for Physics, it was ranked between the 401-500th, which is the third best result in the country.
During the making of the ARWU list, more than 1800 higher education institutions were examined and the best 1000 were ranked. Scientific excellence was inspected in four categories and by six indicators. Publications in the Journal of Nature and Science; students, teachers and researchers awarded with Nobel or Fields Prize; quotation of scientific papers and academic achievement per capita were also taken into consideration during the compilation of the list.
