Description of the programme: The programme is designed to train experts in German literature and culture with excellent command of the German language through two two specialisations: Language and Literature Specialisation (Spezialisation Sprache und Literatur) and Translation and Interpretation Specialisation (Spezialisation Übersetzen und Dolmetschen).

There is a special focus on the historical and cultural grounds in the context of Central Europe as well as the transfer of cultures, languages and literature within the region. Students are trained to acquire all the information and methodological know-how that is necessary for a profound understanding of the literatures and cultures of German- speaking countries.

They will be able to apply the skills and knowledge they have developed through their studies of German languages, cultures and literature. They are also expected to develop the ability to analyse intermedial cultural phenomena and language use with special regard to the various dialects of the German language.

Special emphasis is placed on developing students’ ability to present their knowledge in diverse circumstances ranging from scholarly to lay environments and suggest individual solutions to problems as well as the ability to plan and carry out tasks at a highly professional level. Students are also familiarised with the theoretical approaches of various schools of different ages and expected to evaluate those in a critical manner.

They are also given the opportunity to develop skills of self-study and self-development, enabling them to fulfil the task of lifelong learning.

  • Application deadline: February
  • Application fee: 150 EUR
  • Tuition fee: 3500 EUR/semester
  • Entrance exam: interview via Skype in May
