The University of Szeged has pursued education, research, art, sustainability, healing, and social engagement to a remarkable extent in the last few decades. Nothing proves this more than the outstanding results the University achieved in national and international rankings.
The University of Szeged is featured on almost 20 world rankings among the top institutions of the world every year. We are proud that our University is one of the best universities in Hungary.
World University Rankings
According to QS rankings, the University of Szeged is the best university in Hungary. It features our Institution between positions 601st and 610th.
The QS World University Rankings from British Quacquarelli Symonds assesses institutions on the basis of nine metrics: academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (15%), faculty student ratio (10%), citations per faculty (20%), international students ratio (5%), international faculty ratio (5%), international research network (5%), employment outcomes (5%), and sustainability (5%).
According to the ARWU ranking of Shanghai Ranking, the University of Szeged qualifies as one of the best Hungarian universities taking up positions between 701st and 800th worldwide and the third position in Hungary.
ARWU (or Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as Shanghai Ranking) uses six objective indicators to rank universities including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals (30%), publication performance (40%), the number of highly cited scientific works (20%), and academic per capita performance of a university (10%).
On the Times Higher Education World Ranking, the University of Szeged is included in the 1001-1200th category. In terms of Hungary, we share the fourth position with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
The THE World University Rankings includes 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators across five areas teaching environment (29.5%), research environment (29%), research quality (30%), industry (4%), and international outlook (7.5%).
On the global list of U.S. News, the University of Szeged is ranked 662nd and 3rd place in Hungary.
Best Global Universities Rankings, the list of U.S. News & World Report Education ranks institutions of higher education around the world based on 13 indicators that measure their research performance and academic reputation.
On the global list of CWUR, the University of Szeged ranks 3rd in Hungary and 708th globally.

According to the regional list of QS, the University of Szeged ranks 11th in Central Europe, 242nd in Europe, and 3rd in Hungary.

On the THE ranking list, the University of Szeged is in the category of 201-250th.
Sustainability Rankings
In the Sustainability Rankings of QS, the University of Szeged shares the first place in Hungary, and occupies the 122nd position in Europe and the 259th globally. The University shined in the subcategories as well: among the Hungarian universities, we gained the best international positions in terms of environmental sustainability (79th) and governance (106th). In Hungary, we earned the most points qualifying as first in subcategories assessing environmental research, social impact, knowledge exchange, and the impact of research and education. The University of Szeged achieved great results in terms of environmental education, equality, employability, promoting health and wellbeing, and governance. QS Sustainability Rankings measures an institution’s ability to tackle environmental (45%), social (45%) and governance (10%) challenges.
According to the Times Higher Education sustainability ranking, the University of Szeged ranked 401-600th globally and 2nd in Hungary (sharing the position with two other Hungarian universities). In almost all subcategories created alongside the Sustainable Development Goals, the University ranked among the top 3 (9 first, 5 second, and 2 third places – sometimes shared position with another university). On the list of “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”, the University got into the top 100: it ranked 85th globally. The THE Impact Rankings are the global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to see their economic and social impact, and their engagement.
According to the Indonesian UI Green Metric “green university ranking list, the University of Szeged is one of the “greenest” Hungarian university: it ranked 77th globally and 2nd in Hungary. In the category of “Setting and Infrastructure”, it gained the position of the best Hungarian university. The shortlist of the Universitas Indonesia has six categories: Setting and Infrastructure (15%), Energy and Climate Change (21%), Waste (18%), Water (10%), Transportation (18%), and Education and Research (18%).

Hungarian ranking: League table of HVG
According to the League table of HVG, the University of Szeged is the best university in Hungary based on teaching quality. In the overall ranking, the University of Szeged claimed the 4th position among the universities of Hungary. This year, some faculties of the University also gained positions: the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School, the Faculty of Science and Informatics, the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, the Faculty of Pharmacy, and the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration all ranked better compared to last year’s results.
